Much-requested, finally here: our New Column Resizing Feature!
For over 10 years you’ve been able to put up to five columns on your Start.me page, which were all of equal size. As of today, you can add two more columns, and set the width for each separate column. So, no matter how big your screen has become, you’re in control! Here’s how it all works.

Flexible column width
Many users have contacted us, as they envisioned new ways to use the Start.me platform for the organisation of their online resources. One of the more frequently mentioned requests were to make columns bigger and smaller according to their content.

Instructions
- Click the new Pencil Icon in the header. This icon replaces the old More button.
- Select Adjust Columns
- Click the number of columns you’d like to see on your page.
- Once you’ve done this, you can set the width of each separate column. You can choose between S, M, L, and XL. They are calculated relative to the other columns, so you’ll find that they don’t have the same size on every page. On a page with only a few columns, the XL will be a lot bigger.
As always, we apply your changes immediately and save your changes in the background.
Increased Column Capacity: 7 Columns Available
You might not have noticed, but the sizes of computer monitors have increased substantially over time. Not to mention the growth of the use of Digiboards in educational settings. For bookmark hoarders like the Start.me Development Team, this is good news, as it accommodates even more widgets and bookmarks in the same window. To keep up with modern times, we’ve just added the option to add two more columns to your pages.
Instructions
- Click the Pencil Icon in the header.
- Click the second option in the menu: Adjust columns.
- Here you can select the number of columns (max. 7) you want to display on your page.
Note: if you reduce the number of columns, we’ll automatically reorder your widgets to fit the page. If you then expand the number of columns, we don’t fill them up automatically. You’ll have to do this manually. The easiest way to do this, is by drag and drop.
Mobile View Improvements

This time around, we haven’t just focused on desktop computers, we’ve also improved the mobile version of our app. Before today, we relied on a single scroll list of widgets. This solution was simple and responsive, but not very practical. The order of widgets was also stored separately, which made finding your bookmarks on the smartphone just a bit too tricky.
As of today, these issues are resolved, as we’ve added the option to scroll horizontally. Your smartphone will now display your pages in the same order and positioning as your desktop. This alignment should help you to find your stuff faster, regardless of your device.
What’s next?
Soon we’ll be adding the option to add titles to columns, allow columns to be copied, moved, or deleted, as well as to expand or collapse all widgets inside a column. What else would you like to see on Start.me? Let us know in the comments or by emailing us.

I would like to have more table colums in the link widgets so the links can have some categories at each link and a headline to sort the links dynamicaly if the user like to do this.
Example: A categorie date (not the Date addet into the list) to sort for this or a categorie Mainpage to write Mainpages in it and in the link name ohne the titles of the sublinks on this mainpage.
Something like that was amazing.
Hi Hoschi, thanks so much for your comment! If I understand your request correctly, you’d like to see more sorting options, especially based on a categorization of your links? To me, this looks like you’d like to see the option to add catefories/tags to your links, and then to sort according to these catagories/tags. Is that correct? Well, at the moment we don’t support that. We intended our widgets to function as a sort of collection of similar links, a category if you will. So you can call a widget Mainpages, and sort your links there. And if you want to add subcategories, you can do that in a widget with a Bookmarks group. Hope this helps! And if not, or if we didn’t understand you correctly, please let us know. We love to improve our service with the help from our users!
Any chance of a Thumbnail based link previews without the need of a embed? And ofcourse pdf level export option.
Hi Suvran, thanks for your comment! Right now, we don’t support link previews for bookmarks, but I’ll add bring it to the attention of the dev team, as it might be a nice addition. And as for the PDF-level export option: this might be interesting too, so I’ll pass on your request. In the meantime, you can open your exported file with a browser, right-click the page, and save as PDF. This is usually a two-click operation. Hope this helps!
1+ for the thumbnail preview
Noted!
Awesome, that is a nice feature. The one thing I would love to see is the ability to use backgrounds from places like Unsplash, where you can enter a collection ID and have the background change at set intervals. A lot of the “new tab” extensions have this feature, and it makes a world of difference in the aesthetics. You can look at one like https://online.bonjourr.fr/ and click the gear to see what I mean.
Either way great work. Start Me has been my main bookmark system for a while.
Thanks so much for your compliments and feedback, Clint! This rotating background image you mentioned has been on our radar for quite some time now, as a nice-to-have feature. We completely agree that it would enhance the aesthetics of our service. so, your request definitely bumps it up a bit in our priority list! Keep it up, and keep following our blog for new updates!
Pull to refresh page is broken as of yesterday in Android Chrome 😕
Hi Chris, we’ll look into this as soon as possible. I see that you’ve also contacted our support team, thank you for that. We’ll keep you posted. Thanks for your patience!
Love it, thanks!
You’re welcome, Martijn!
Works great! Love the wider column options.
Thanks for trying it, Liza. We’re glad you like it!
This is awesome! One of the best new features in years. Well done.
Thanks so much for letting us know, Vince!
Hi,
That’s a great new feature. However, I’m using Startme on my browser, Chrome, and there is no pencil icon next to the Share and + buttons. It’s still the more button. And the drop down does not have an option for sizing columns. Please advise.
Thanks!
Hi Janet,
Please logout of your account and then login again. Now you should see the Pencil icon. If not, please contact us at support@Start.me and we’ll be able to assist you further with this.
